Chapter One

“Hold the elevator!!“ Elektra Matsoukas yelled as the doors were closing. It was her first day as a New York City Police detective, and she didn’t want to be late for her meeting with her new bosses. A nice gentleman held the elevator doors for her. Elektra smiled and looked at the man that held the door for her. He had a prominent nose and glass green eyes. She also noticed the plaid tie he wore. While he did have striking features, she knew that he wasn’t her type. He definitely didn’t dress well, plus he was quite a bit older than her. She really didn’t want another father-figure in her life.

“Thanks. My first day.”
“No problem. I know that feeling,” said Detective Mike Logan. He gave one of his charming smiles to her that seemed to work on all women. And this woman was quite a sight with her bright blue eyes, fair skin, and her well put together outfit. He couldn’t tell how long her chocolate brown hair was because it was tied up into a tight bun. But he could tell by looking at her just how young she was. He definitely wasn’t the cradle-robbing type.

Elektra made it to her meeting on time and was sent to the 11th floor to meet her new partner and captain. She was extremely nervous. Rumor had it that it took years of hard work to become a detective on the Major Case Squad. She was only 26. She had hoped that her captain, partner, and fellow detectives would see past this and appreciate her for her skills and intelligence.

“So when am I going to get a new partner captain??” Logan asked Captain Ross.

“Upstairs is supposed to send someone down this morning,” replied Ross. He was glad that Logan was finally going to get a new partner. Ross could tell that Logan was going stir crazy just sitting around the bullpen doing paperwork. There was a knock on his door.

“Come in.” Logan was preparing himself for the worst. He’d been through so many partners that meeting a new partner was no big deal to him. But he was totally shocked at the person that walked through the captain’s door. It was the woman from the elevator
